Zurgena Pairs League
This is a round robin competition with each team playing each other twice and it will run from June 4th to the end of July depending on the number of entries. There will be one league, and each team will play two games on a Wednesday. First games commence at 10.00H, second game at 11.30H. Entry fee is 5 euros per player which must be paid to the Competition Secretary before the closing date of 27th May.
Please do not enter if you cannot commit to completing your fixtures.
RULES
Games will be played in line with Crystral Marks 4th edition where not covered below.
1.Teams will consist of 3 players drawn as follows:
First player - handicap 8 or above.
Second player - handicap 6 to 7.
Third player – handicap 0 to 5
2. Each match consists of two five-end sets, with a one-end tie-break played if required. The game format is pairs, with three bowls for each player per end. Matches take just over one hour from start to finish and the team that wins both sets or one set and then the tie-break is the winner. The winning team will be awarded 2 points. The semi-finals will be contested by the 4th placed team versus the 1st placed team and the 3rd placed team versus the 2nd placed team. The winners of the final are the Event Champions.
3. One trial end is allowed.
4. No visiting the head
5. To speed up the game there will be NO CASTING OF THE JACK! The lead will place the mat after discussion with the skip. Likewise, the skip will place the jack at one of the corresponding marks at his/her end. There are only three possible places to put the mat - on the back T, mid-way (a chalk mark will be made on the green) or on the minimum T mark.
6. In the event of a DEAD END the jack will be placed on the 2-metre T and play will continue. Should the 2-metre T be occupied by a bowl, then the jack shall be placed in-line between the mat & the 2 metre. T as near as possible thereto, but not touching the bowl.
7. Team skips will also be able to nominate one Power Play end per set, enabling teams to earn double the shots scored in that end. Powerplay ends must be nominated before the first bowl is delivered. Once the bowl is in motion it is too late to call for a powerplay on that end. Both teams can choose to play their powerplay on the same end but obviously only one will score.
8. If a tie-break is required to decide the winner, all players on both teams will take to the green, with the format changing to two-bowl-triples for that end. A toss of the coin will decide who has the mat. Team players may bowl in any order they wish for this tie-break end.
9. The skip may use their substitute player at any time, but only immediately preceding the delivery of a bowl by their team player. Every player in the team, including the substitute, must bowl at least twelve bowls per game. Skips can use the substitute as many times as possible.
10. All games must be played according to the schedule. If a player is more than 10 minutes late or a team advises they cannot play, the game will be awarded to their opponent with 2 points for a win and +5 shots.
11. If a team withdraws from the league the results of all their fixtures will become null and void and club sanctions may be imposed for future competitions.
12. The Organisers reserve the right to make changes or alterations, and the final format will depend on the number of entrants. Reserves allowed at discretion of the organiser.
